Tags

'Tags' is a drop-down field that is present in most Stash Hub record types: Fabrics, Patterns, Notions, Projects, Notes and Inspiration.

Tags are an easy way to create your own custom filterable categories within Stash Hub. You can use Stash Hub's filters to quickly view records with a particular tag. Check out this article to see how to use and save filters. There are no tags set up when you first get started with Stash Hub – the idea is that you create them yourself so they are personalised to your stash and sewing.

Some examples of how you might use tags

  • Fabric: Have tags for 'Quilting' and 'Dressmaking' so you can view your collections separately
  • Patterns: If you sew for multiple people, create tags so you can view only patterns you bought for them (e.g. 'For Doug')
  • Projects: Create a tag for a capsule wardrobe (e.g. Summer 2026 Capsule)
  • Inspiration: Allows you to filter for inspiration from different sources (e.g. 'High Street Fashion', 'Vintage')
  • Notes: Categorise your notes (e.g. 'Tutorial', 'Machine')
  • Use tags to help you focus on goals (e.g. 'Use Soon', 'Scrap Busting', 'Confidence Builder')
  • You could also use tags to mark records that need more information adding to them

How to use tags

  1. Tap into the Tags field
  2. Start typing the name of your tag
  3. If you're creating a new tag, enter the name and select 'New' to add your tag to the list OR scroll the drop-down menu to select an existing tag
  4. Multiple tags can be added to a single record
  5. Applied tags will appear as chips above the tags text box
  6. Tap on the X on the chip to remove a tag
  7. Use Advanced Filters to narrow down your stash to show only records with the selected tag(s)

Tips for using Tags

Tags work best when they are simple and consistent. For example, if you create a tag called 'Dressmaking', try to use that same tag each time rather than also creating similar tags like 'Dress making', 'Garment sewing', or 'Clothes'. Use Field Suggestions to update tags or delete them from all records.

Tags are completely custom, so there is no right or wrong way to use them. The best tags are the ones that help you find what you need when you need it. Before adding a new tag, it can help to ask: “Will I want to filter by this later?” If the answer is yes, it probably makes a good tag.
